Fortunately, I finally got the actual device unlock. Not one representative on Sprint community could figure it out, or the technicians they contacted.
However, as I read on other websites, the device needed to be active on Sprint to receive the unlock code. I called Sprint international and asked for UICC unlock. They stated that sometimes the unlock does not relay to the device unless active. This required me to temporary activated the phone on my in-laws account (actually swapping one of their devices out for this device for about 30 minutes total). Once the phone was active, I went to UICC and try to unlock, first time came up that UICC is lock to Sprint. The representative then pushed the unlock again.
The device (Samsung S6) rebooted and second time the UICC unlock button was pushed, it displayed that it was now unlocked for other carriers. Inserted Tmobile SIM and booted right up with Tmobile service.
Working perfectly now. I will say that Sprint needs to fix this or they could indirectly lose customers, as my in-laws are very upset with Sprint with the hoops that I had to jump through (over 1 month in communications with Sprint) to get this unlock for their granddaughter. Sadly even with me telling some of these Sprint representatives directly that the phone needs to be active on Sprint network, they refuse to believe it and try to come back that it is your issue now deal with it. Again Good Luck, but unless you can find a representative to temporary activate the phone, it will be a nearly impossible feat to unlock.
Sprint has to get their act together and train everyone to realize that in some cases the phone may need to be reactivated on their system to properly unlock. Sinhala unicode font download. And hopefully they find a better way to do this, rather than having to inconvenience the original owners, because this is only going to frustrate their current customers also. If the phone was inactive, and the representative did not work with you as I mentioned in my case, my best guess is the phone is still locked. The representative cannot tell remotely if the device is truly unlocked.
All they can do is send an unlock update to the phone. You can check SettingsSystem UpdatesUICC unlock and see if it displays that the phone is unlocked for other GSM carriers.
However, I did not get this message until phone was activated and the unlock update was resent. Until that was done, I would always get an error with contact customer care. If you still have an active account with Sprint, the easiest way I know to unlock is to call Sprint International, tell them you want to UICC unlock your inactive phone by reactivating the phone through swapping with your current Sprint phone. This UICC unlock is the crucial step that needs to be performed on the device.
Once the phone is active, go to UICC unlock. If it still says Sprint only, then have Sprint push the unlock update to the phone again while you are on the phone, the phone should reboot and next time you push the UICC unlock it should say it is unlocked. Once completed, have them reactivate your original phone. The easiest way to tell if it is unlock is to insert another carrier SIM into the phone that is known good. If you get invalid SIM, it is still locked.
I would expect a Tmobile store could help test that if you dont have a SIM. The other caveat that I dont know the answer to is can the phone lose the unlock and become relocked. I question what would happen if the phone is factory reset, or if profile, prl information is reset. I can't believe this. I sold my phone on the marketplace (after the first time I tried to sell I had to refund because it was locked) and ONCE AGAIN, the customer comes back to me with a refund request because the phone was not unlocked! They tried on Metro PCS and Sprint. This is the 2nd time Sprint said everything was unlocked, but it is still not!
After I called Sprint and unlocked with their International team, I asked for a confirmation of unlock. They said everything is good to go and the phone is unlocked.

Ok here's my story, hopefully this can give people some insight: 11/17: Attempted to order 4 Essential Phones via Sprint.com - failed, so I had to call in and was successfully able to order 4. Total: $119.07 (4 x $25 downpayment, $10 shipping, taxes) 11/20: Received 4 Essential Phones in the mail.
Tried to use T-Mobile SIM to boot them up to see if any were unlocked initially - all were locked. Put the Sprint SIM back in for the time being.
Bought out the lease to own the phones. Total $508.81 (4 x (18 months x $5, $30 buyout, taxes, fees)).
Chat assured me that I own the phones at this point. No other billing required 11/22 morning: I only have 1 Essential Phone on me at this time (other 3 were at home), checked to see if UICC unlock worked and it did. Phone was unlocked.
Used the T-Mobile SIM card now and service is so much better. 11/22 afternoon: Got an email from Sprint regarding new billing updates, didn't look into it cause I thought it was just another email reminder or something.
11/22 evening: I was checking my network settings and noticed that the network still said Sprint when it had the T-Mobile SIM inside. I thought that resetting the phone would change it (no issues, just wanted to see T-Mobile instead of Sprint). After rebooting, the phone said 'no SIM card' (T-Mobile SIM still inside), so I rebooted again and it said the same. I put the Sprint SIM back in and UICC was LOCKED again. 11/23 morning: Tried to swap out SIMs again, but UICC was still LOCKED.
Contacted their chat to see what was up. Looked closely at the email I got the prior day and it was showing that I owed a bill of $229.39. Checked the IMEI status of the phone that I had with me and now it shows that it has 'Financial responsibility and/or contract'. Had to get the chat escalated to a supervisor to see what the hell was going on: As of 11/21, I owned all of the phones after paying a total of $627.88, which a remaining bill of $0.00. As of 11/22, I no longer own the phones since there was a new bill of $229.39 (insurance was added on each phone without my consent, along with that Spending Limit Program Charge, and other unfamiliar charges. My monthly plan should be $65 + $45 + $0 + $0). What the supervisor pretty much told me was that after getting the new bill, the original $627.88 that I paid FOR THE PHONES, no longer all went towards THE PHONES, it was automatically split between the phones and the active plan.
It was 'automatically adjusted' and there is 'no way that the devices can be separated from the bill'. Tl;dr: I owned the phones for a day and then I don't own them anymore since Sprint decided that they can move my money around. Anyone have any ideas for next steps? Can't do trade in since I don't 'own the phones' anymore. Good choice, i had the unlock one from amazon and almost made the decision to return it and do the Sprint deal. So glad i saw this post.
What push me back originally was normally carrier would request you to be on the network for a certain period of time if you do a lease, i was asking about the iphone x plan at Sprint and they mentioned that FLEX plan would need you to be on the network for 18 month. When i saw the deal for essential i am pretty surprised they will allow unlock right after you got the phone. They might found that too many people are doing this so decided to stop allowing that happening. I think Sprint is starting to catch on to everyone trying to make a quick buck on this phone. That being said their computer systems are terribly antiquated and it takes them 10x longer to do anything than other carriers. I went into TMobile to get out of my lease by returning my device, upgrading, then turning my upgraded device in and paying the restocking fee. The whole process took maybe 10 minutes.
I went over to Sprint to add a line to a family plan, Port my number, and get a phone and it took about 2 hours. About the whole insurance thing they tacked on, there should be some kind of transaction history where they can see who added the insurance and at what time. It's straight up fraud if you didn't agree to it.
You may have better luck getting it removed if you can make it personal. I had a similarly poor experience with Sprint. Although I had T-Mobile service, I did the Sprint deal and got 2 phones.
I was considering switching if Sprint service was better at home. (Turns out it isn't.). I spent 90 minutes in the store initially buying the phones.
It should have taken at most 30 minutes. Nobody at the store had heard of the $5/month lease deal that had started days earlier. Nobody really knew exactly how the lease process worked. They thought they had cases and screen protectors in stock. Turns out they don't carry any. They told me I could get $100/line in accessory credits after a few weeks, so I ended up buying some $200 headphones. After I got home and look up the fine print, it turns out it's just a cash rebate you get if you still have the account in good standing after 6-8 weeks that can be used for anything, not just overpriced in-store accessories.
When I tried to return the headphones at another store I was closer to at the time, their computers won't working well. It took them about 20 minutes only to be told that I would actually have to go back to the store I originally purchased them from.
When I went back to the original store, it took them 29 minutes (I timed it) to process my return during which time they tried to convince me not to return them 3 times. I called customer service to pay off the lease. The phone menu takes a few minutes to navigate through, and it makes it extremely difficult to get through to an actual person. I had a 20 minute car ride, and the person I talked to was so slow they couldn't both process the lease payoff and take my money in that time.
Every time I called customer support (to pay off the lease, to unlock phones - multiple times, to get LTE working, and finally to cancel my account), I got transferred at least once. On one call, I spoke with no fewer than 6 people. At each transfer, I had to give them my name, phone number, PIN, and tell them why I was calling all over again. I tried to get the phones unlocked and got told multiple things by multiple people (we'll unlock them right away, after the billing cycle, or after 50 days).
Nobody in support seemed to really know what they were talking about, and they certainly weren't empowered to actually help me. So after all this, even if Sprint had better coverage at home, I wouldn't have switched. I've had T-Mobile service for nearly 5 years now.
Every time I've talked to customer service, the people I talk to are able to solve my problem. They're knowledgeable and respect my time. I now understand first hand why people I've talked to generally don't care for Sprint. The bright side is that I paid $375 total for 2 phones that are now unlocked, and I no longer have a Sprint account. I'm not sure I would go through it again.
Uicc Sim
Actually yes, just ordered the NANO SIM directly from AT&T after ordering their services a few days ago and it came in the mail today and was ready to go, pre-activated. For clarification, I have the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P) from Sprint.
As my device is paid in full, I went into Settings System Update UICC Unlock, and received a message that it was successful. I then powered off the device, removed the Sprint NANO SIM, popped in the AT&T NANO SIM, powered on the device and BAM! AT&T SIM card was recognized almost immediately, then you go to Settings Mobile Networks Access Point Names Add, and from there you plug in these settings: Name: NXTGENPHONE APN: NXTGENPHONE Proxy: Not set Port: Not set Username: Not set Password: Not set Server: Not set MMSC: MMS proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net MMS port: 80 MCC: 310 MNC: 410 Authentication Type: None APN type: Default APN protocol: IPv4 Enabled Bearer: Unspecified After this is complete, go back to the top, under options, hit Save. Restart the device to ensure proper loading of new settings. YOU ARE NOW ACTIVATED and ready to enjoy AT&T's services. The rumors about the calls or texts not going through, 100% FALSE.
I get 3G, 4G, and 4GLTE no problem! EVERYTHING works. Yes, in the beginning when I first got an interest in switching over to AT&T, I went to one of the stores near me myself, and asked a staff member about bringing my device to their network and I was told that it was completely incompatible because Sprint is CDMA and AT&T is GSM, however on the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM-G920P), the phone was designed to accommodate either network, thus the reason it is a 'Global' device. I hope I cleared the air about some rumors and concerns.
Unlock the device through Sprint's UICC Unlock procedure and you are on your way to a better network with a phone you already have. NOTE: If you still owe money on the device from Sprint, they may or may not let you complete the UICC Unlock process, thus halting your ability to bring it over to AT&T. I'll be glad to help!
I had a gs4T that had a sim card fail error. Not knowing if it was the card or the reader, the sprint store tech swapped out the card as a troubleshooting tactic. Apparently Sim card fails are relatively common. He had no problem taking a new card from his spares supply right there at the counter, scanning the bar code on it and entering my phone id into the system. Within a couple minutes it was back up and running. Unfortunately a day later the problem returned implicating the reader as the root cause.

Any store with a decent tech can swap a card in moments.
